After more than six months since its last motorsport event, the Tasmanian based Club Motori Italia, will finally return to action with its annual CMI Domain Hillclimb this Sunday.
It’s been a long time coming for the Italian inspired car club, who have had to cancel multiple events this year, and it will be jumping right in the deep end this weekend when it hosts its first event since restrictions were eased with a record number of 50 entries taking part in the hill climb.
Each driver will get around four attempts at posting the fastest time on the picturesque hill climb with Jamie Longeron and Damian Moore headlining the bumper field and both are likely to be contending for outright results.

With the club not having put on an event since restrictions were eased across the state, event organisers, including club sectary David Button have been working quite hard to get it all organised and in line with Motorsport Australia’s Return To Race document.
With a record number of entries confirmed to attend the hill climb, a surprised Button was thrilled with the interest from people and their motivation to take part in the club’s event.
“We have had a few social events this year but we had to drop two hill climbs, so this is our first real major event since early March,” Button said.
“To be honest, we were a little worried about how many entries we would get, but we were blown away because we ended up being swamped. We limited it to 50 entries, and we reach capacity two weeks before we were supposed to close them.
“Normally we get around 40 entries. So this is the first time we have ever had to shut entries early because of the demand and we have even had to turn people away, which we never do. It’s been very good and we’re excited
“It’s been a busy lead up with all the permits and all but we’re confident everything will go ahead as planned and without issue. We have no problem with numbers and Tasmania has increased outdoor gathering limits 1000, which I don’t even think we will get close to.
“We also have more Italian cars than we have ever had at an event with nine cars so we’re rapt about that, especially since we are an Italian car club.
“We can’t wait for this weekend to come by and it’s all very exciting.”
The CMI Domain Hillclimb takes place at Queens Domain on Sunday 27 September.
