The Motorsport Australia Medical Standards were formed in conjunction with NMAC (National Medical Advisory Committee) and act as the framework for the minimum medical clearance required to get a licence.

Medical clearance is required for all licences, ranging from a basic health statement to a full medical examination. See below to find out what the minimum requirements are for your discipline.

Motorsport is an inherently dangerous activity which is why Motorsport Australia is committed to the safety of all competitors, volunteers and spectators who are passionate lovers of our sport.


Medical Requirements


Speed and Off Road:
  • Annual Heath Statement with additional medical clearance for listed conditions.
Circuit/Superkart and Rally:
  • Annual Heath Statement with additional medical clearance for listed conditions.
  • First-time applicants of all ages require a full Motorsport Australia Medical Examination.
  • Applicants over age 45 require a medical examination every second year.
  • A resting ECG is required with all medicals.

International Licences:
  • Annual Heath Statement with additional medical clearance for listed conditions.
  • Applicants of all ages require an annual medical examination.
  • Cardiovascular Aptitude - FIA ISC Appendix L
    (a) 59 years old and under: an ECG within the previous 36 months is required.
    (b) 50 years old and over: a cardiologist review is required every three years.
    (c) 60 years old and over: an ECG and an Exercise Tolerance Test (ETT) within the previous 12 months. Subsequently, an ECG should take place every year and an ETT and cardiology consultation every two years.

 
Pregnancy and Motorsport Participation Policy:

The objective of this Policy is to outline Motorsport Australia’s commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for pregnant women to participate in motorsport, during the term of their pregnancy. In addition, this policy clarifies the impact on licences and insurance.

Pregnant competitors can request a temporary pause on their competition licence for the term of their pregnancy.
