Young karter Aiden Schweikert has won his second Walbundrie Hotel Social Series Championship after a thrilling conclusion to the 10-round online series.

At just 11-years-old, Schweikert managed to snatch the Gentlemen's Sim Racing Club (GSRC) run series from club stalwart Dave May in the dying moments of the final race of the season.

Taking place at the virtual Mount Panorama, the finale saw all competitors behind the wheel of a Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car for the one-hour race.

The entertaining bout reached a thrilling climax on the penultimate lap when fuel became an issue for all drivers, forcing many into the pits for a quick fuel stop.

Upon the conclusion of the pit stops, Schweikert navigated his way to the lead, which was aided by some drivers falling down the order after attempting a no-stop strategy.

Schweikert ultimately went on to win the race and the series as a result with May, who held a 12-point advantage going into the finale, having contact and finishing sixth.

As a result of his victory, the karting rising star became the first driver in the series’ history to win back-to-back and he was thrilled with the result.

“It felt incredible,” Schweikert said.

“Going into that, I didn't even think I had a chance but I found a rhythm and was just able to take it away from Dave.

“After a great season of racing it feels good to end up on top”.
