Motorsport Australia has updated its Essential Officials Matrices after a thorough review and consultation with multiple stakeholders.
The Matrices were initially created to display the minimum licence level that essential officials are required to hold at Motorsport Australia sanctioned events across all levels and disciplines.
During COVID-19, Motorsport Australia set up a recovery taskforce to help the sport improve its processes and growth opportunities. As part of this, the opportunity was taken to align the Matrices to already established Motorsport Australia rules.

There were multiple factors considered during the review process including the confirmation of the minimum level of required officials and the current officials’ development pathway which can assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining Silver and Gold Licences.
Some of the updates across most disciplines included the removal of Club Chiefs and the minimum number of Stewards attending each event, while another notable change was increasing the Clerk of Course licence level for all National Level Speed events to Silver.
Motorsport Australia General Manager of Motorsport and Commercial Operations Michael Smith believed the new changes would benefit the sport.
“When the taskforce's recommendations were considered, it was important to find a good balance between making life easier for event organisers, but still keeping safety at the forefront,” Smith said.
“The new updates around the essential officials’ requirements will reduce the burden on event organisers, but also maintain the structure of having higher graded officials fulfilling important roles at events.
“All disciplines of the sport were reviewed and we believe these changes will have a positive effect on participants, officials and event organisers.”
