New Trans Am Series ready for take off

Wednesday 22 January, 2020
The new Trans Am Series will have six rounds in 2020.
The newly created national Trans Am Series will begin life in Australia in less than one month’s time with the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships confirmed to host four of the series’ six rounds in 2020.

Starting off next month as part of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship’s season opener, the Superloop Adelaide 500, the series will then head to Sydney Motorsport Park at the end of March for the Shannons’ season opener.

Rounds at Winton Motor Raceway, The Bend Motorsport Park and Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit will take place following the series’ second round before it moves to the iconic Mount Panorama for the season finale.

The series’ final round of the year will form part of an impressive list of categories expected to feature in the inaugural Bathurst International, which will also include the TCR Australia Series.

Australian Racing Group CEO Matt Braid was thrilled to be part of the new series’ launch.

“ARG is extremely excited to launch the National Trans Am Series for 2020,” Braid said.

“Trans Am cars are some of the most exciting race cars that are currently in Australia. They look and sound spectacular, create great racing and they are built with cost in mind.

“It is our goal to give these iconic brands like Mustang, Camaro and the Dodge Challengers the national footprint they deserve and what better way to kick it off than at the Superloop Adelaide 500.”

With the category to showcase an impressive array of V8-powered Trans Am 2 cars, the creation comes off the back of Australian Racing Group’s decision to part ways with the promoters for the current TA2 Muscle Car Series.

The series will also be boosted with every round to be showcased with Network Seven recently agreeing to broadcast the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships free-to-air and via it’s 7Plus live broadcast application.

The first round of the Trans Am Series will take place at the Superloop Adelaide 500 on 20-22 February.
