Super2 and Super3 change race format

The Dunlop Series
The combined Dunlop Super2 and Dunlop Super3 Series will adopt a new race format in 2023 after the Supercars Commission approved the significant change.

Coming into effect from this month’s Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint, every race for the series will now run under allotted time periods as opposed to lap counts.

With the Repco Supercars Championship feeder series having previously had lap-races, which would be run in a 30-minute period, the new race duration has been increased to 40-minute time-certain races.

The change will be applicable to every round of the series, with the exception of Bathurst which will remain at the 100-kilometre maximum.

Supercars Motorsport Operations Manager Paul Martin was confident the new change would have a positive effect on the combined competition.

“The decision to move away from lap count to an allotted time race is to assist the driving standards and provide maximum exposure to the category and value for money for Teams,” Martin said.

“We believe this change will enable our drivers to focus more on racing and less on tactics, as well as provide an enhanced viewing experience for our fans."

"Following consultation with various Dunlop Series Teams, Broadcast Partners and Event Promoters, we are pleased to receive their support for the amendment.

“We believe this change will bring more excitement and unpredictability to the series, making it even more thrilling for everyone involved."
