Adelaide Rally to take over famous Victoria Park streets

Thursday 24 November, 2022
An exciting motorsport show will wrap up this weekend's Shannons Adelaide Rally.
The Shannons Adelaide Rally will wrap up the 2022 edition of the event with a massive finale headlined by an iconic car showdown.

Taking place at Victoria Park following the conclusion of the event’s final stage, a series of demonstrations will take centre stage for the two-hour show, which will include the event's highly anticipated speed comparison.

The exhibition demonstration will see a number of iconic sports cars, rally cars, Supercars and others going up against each other in a two-by-two contest along the front straight of the famous Adelaide Street Circuit.

There are a number of notable entries to feature in the speed comparison, including Australian legend Craig Lowndes and current Repco Supercars Championship drivers Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood.

All three drivers will be equipped with impressive vehicles as Lowndes runs a Lamborghini Huracán EVO, Kostecki the Erebus Motorsport prepared Holden Commodore ZB and Hazelwood behind the wheel of a McLaren 720S.

In addition to the speed comparison, there will be a number of other demonstrations showcasing impressive machines of yesteryear including the Lola Larousse LC88 that raced in the 1988 Adelaide Grand Prix and the Footwork FA15 1994 Formula 1 car, as well as S5000s and Formula 5000 cars.

There will also be plenty of entertainment off track with DJs, food and wine stalls, car displays and more all making up the exciting event.

Shannons Adelaide Rally event director Tim Possingham was looking forward to the event.

“The Shannons Adelaide Rally Victoria Park Finale is a significant event as it is the coming together of the Adelaide Rally, Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the Adelaide 500, in the first racing action on the iconic circuit since February 2020,” Possingham said.

“It will be a great lead-in into the Adelaide 500 to get people revved up for the event, featuring everything from a Formula 1 car to a V8 Supercar to classics and exotics. It’s a free community event, giving the Adelaide motoring and motorsport community an opportunity to attend a non-ticketed event to celebrate the return of racing to the circuit.

“Our vision is to run the Adelaide Rally in the week before the Adelaide 500 going forward, with plans to expand on the Victoria Park Finale, while the Adelaide Motorsport Festival is locked in for the week before the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix."

Free for all to attend, the event takes place at the famous Victorian Park just four days out from the grand return of the Adelaide 500.

The Shannons Adelaide Rally Victoria Park Finale takes place at Victoria Park at 4pm ACDT on Sunday 27 November.
