After what has been an extremely busy off season, the Repco Supercars Championship finally returns this weekend.

It may have only been three months since Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth were victorious in the Great Race at Bathurst, however with the changes throughout the paddock, the season opener will look very different to the last time out.

There were plenty of changes to the driver lines up and an expected return to many circuits that haven’t been run since 2019, it’s an exciting time for the championship.

New Supercars CEO Shane Howard was excited for the start of a huge year.

"At the heart of everything we do is motor racing," Howard said.

"The 25 drivers standing here are among the best in the world. We have two committed manufacturers and totally professional race teams. They are fighting for sheep stations. They are there to win.

"I'm looking forward to an amazing championship. There will be drama, I can guarantee that."

While the season was officially ‘launched’ this week, the real business begins on Friday with the return of the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight at a track that has been heavily utilised in the past 24 months.

With the Newcastle 500 postponed, Sydney Motorsport Park once again takes the spotlight as the destination for Australia’s premier racing championship with a solid line up of four support categories making up the busy schedule.

Although fans have recently grown accustomed to the popular race weekend format of three races, the 2022 season opener will come back with a bang and see the two 300-kilometre races – one each on both Saturday and Sunday.

Not only is it an increase from the usual 250-kilometre races, however with Saturday’s race starting at 7:30pm and Sunday’s starting at 2:30pm, the fitness and mental strength of drivers will be on show for fans.

In what is a major boost for spectators, this weekend will also see the Supercars paddock open to the public, which will allow them to look inside a Supercars team garage in the flesh.

The season opener will prove quite the spectacle for fans with plenty of entertainment outside of track action on show around the facility.

International musical act Hot Dub Time Machine will be headlining the list of activations with live sets throughout the weekend, while there will be plenty of food and beverage, merchandise stalls and other activations on offer.

Tickets are still available for purchase here.

Fans unable to attend the event can tune into every session via Kayo and Foxtel, while 7mate will broadcast Saturday night’s feature and Seven will show Sunday’s race – both live and free.

The Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on 4-6 March.
