Supercars confirm 2022 race plans

Supercars has revealed is event formats for 2022.
The race formats for the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship season have been revealed with 34 races to form part of the busy schedule.
 
With Newcastle’s date and time still to be confirmed, the race schedule has increased by three compared to 2021 and will see the return of multiple qualifying and racing formats.
 
There will be plenty of variety this year with the season to get underway with two 300km races at Sydney Motorsport Park in March, while Townsville, Gold Coast and Newcastle rounds will also be refuelling races and will feature two 250km races.
 
Of course, the iconic Repco Bathurst 1000 remains as the standout endurance race.
 
The remaining eight rounds will be in a sprint format of three races during the weekend, the only exception being the four races at the Formula 1 Heineken Australian Grand Prix in April.
 
With regard to pit stops, the Albert Park round will see teams required to complete a minimum of four-tyre changes during stops, while the remaining seven rounds will continue with the minimum two-tyre change.
 
In 2022, the qualifying system will see three formats spread across the 13 rounds.
 
Format 1 is the most common of the three and will see grid positions determined after one single qualifying session, Format 2 will feature a three-part knockout qualifying and Format 3, which occurs just twice, will include both knockout qualifying and a shootout.
 
The ever-popular ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootouts will take place at seven rounds throughout the year - Sydney, Darwin, Townsville, Sandown, Bathurst, Gold Coast and Newcastle.
 
Other notable inclusions for the this year’s formats are all events, except Sandown and Bathurst, will have just two practice sessions while Sandown will feature an Additional Driver session in preparation for the Bathurst 1000.
