Ross Dunkerton will contest the 2021 Shannons Adelaide Rally.
Australian Rally icon Ross Dunkerton has confirmed he will contest the 2021 Shannons Adelaide Rally in November.

After a career that spanned 33 years, Dunkerton will enter the popular South Australian event as one of Australia’s most successful rally individuals, having picked up 114 wins, 18 titles and a FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) podium, which came at Rally New Zealand in 1992.

Despite retiring professionally back in 1994 as one of the world’s top 15 rally drivers, Dunkerton has continued to compete on a casual basis and still managed to win events, including rounds of the RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship, Targa West and TARGA Tasmania.

His most recent success came in 2018 and 2019, when the 76-year-old enjoyed outright podiums at TARGA Great Barrier Reef in both years.

The five-time Australian Rally Champion will be behind the wheel of the same Mitsubishi Galant VR4 he drove during Australian rounds of the WRC throughout the 1990s and will have his wife Lisa, an accomplished co-driver of 15 years on the international and national stage herself, alongside.

Entering the event as the oldest competitor on the entry list, there is 60 years the difference between Dunkerton and the youngest name on the list in ARC junior Max McRae, with both drivers making the journey from Western Australia.

The duo won’t be the only high-profile names contesting the 34-stage event with reigning champion Ben Calder and 2020 runner-up Jeff Morton both entered, while Tony Quinn, Eddie Maguire, Angus Kennard, Adam Kaplan and Peter Rullo are among the list of contenders.

The rally will see a record number of crews battle it out for a prize pool of $25,000 over 230 competitive kilometres spread across four days.
