The 2021 Motorsport Australia South Australian Rally Championship (SARC) season is heating up with the championship’s most famous event to get underway this weekend.

Taking place in Eudunda and its surrounds, a record 35 crews from around the state have entered the Copyworld Walky 100 and will complete 150 competitive kilometres over 12 stages on one action packed day.

Starting with six stages during the day, crews will then tackle three under the twilight sky before completing the remaining stages at night time, giving competitors a mix of all light conditions.

With the popular event not having been run since early 2019, the Walkerville All Cars Club has had time to make some key modifications to the event to improve it to continue its position as one of the most esteemed rally events in the country.

While half of the event’s stages will be run on traditional roads this year, the remaining six will have a different feel with a combination of completely new roads and the return of roads that are no longer used.

In addition to the SARC, organisers have also added two new components to the event - a Classic Cup and special regularity event – both of which are targeted at boosting participation amongst grassroots competitors.

Event Clerk of Course Jake Alker believed that a lot of hard work had gone into the event's preparation and was looking forward to putting it on after an extended break.

“We have been planning for everything quite well and it’s great to see we have been rewarded with our biggest entry list for more than 15 years,” Alker said.

“Even though we had a significant drop in interstate competitors due to the border restrictions, we’ve still managed to double our entry list since 2019, which is a fantastic result.

“Many of the crews still have to do their recces, but so far we have had a lot of great feedback from the ones who have done it already, so we’re excited to give the competition a chance to drive on some top notch roads.

“This event is also quite famous for its night stages and I suppose we’re very lucky that all of South Australia’s restrictions have been lifted and we get to run the event as we originally planned.

“Unfortunately, we can’t have spectators, but apart from that, everything has come together very nicely, so a huge thank you to my team for all their hard work, as well as all the volunteer officials who will make the event happen. This event couldn't happen without them.”

Getting underway on Saturday morning, crews will tackle two passes of three stages with a service break in between.

Following the second service break, three new stages await the competition in twilight before the final break allows them to set up for a second pass for those three stages, only this time they will be running under the night sky.
