Motorsport Australia stands ready to assist members, clubs and event organisers impacted by new restrictions across the country.

While lockdowns have been implemented across a number of major cities, motorsport is continuing in places where the restrictions allow, particularly in regional areas, as well as throughout Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said the sport was in a good position to bounce back from any temporary restrictions.

“We are hopeful these lockdowns in major cities will be short, allowing our members the opportunity to get back competing, officiating and doing what they love,” Arocca said.

“Our Return To Race strategy has certainly proven to be adaptable and of great assistance to our event organisers and clubs as they look to plan events around various government restrictions that might be in place.

“We’ve worked hard throughout 2020 to provide a really solid template for all levels of events to meet relevant restrictions and allow motorsport to continue in a safe and enjoyable environment. As we saw last year, Western Australia was the first to return to action from the nationwide lockdown and since then, all states have seen events take place in numbers.

“We know from experience that each state can have completely different settings from region to region, so our permits and membership teams are keeping a close eye on what can and can’t be done and are working closely with event organisers to make sure they have all the necessary requirements in place for the safety of all attendees.

“Clearly, going in and out of lockdowns and having to manage travel restrictions is not something we want to be dealing with but that is the reality we face. Given that, we’ve made sure that we are adaptable and really focused on assisting clubs and members get through this period as best as we can.

“Despite the current short term issues, we’re exceptionally confident that 2021 will be see a large number of events take place in the second half of this year, from grassroots events through to our national championship race meetings.”
