With National Volunteers Week taking place across the country this week, Motorsport Australia will also use the opportunity to celebrate our volunteer officials once again.

There are more than 10,000 officials spread across the country, volunteering their time and services every week to help make motorsport possible.

From flag marshals at a Repco Supercars Championship round or a timekeeper at a local motorkhana, to a state hill climb championship clerk of course or the event secretary for a multi-club supersprint, there are officials everywhere willing to make sure the show goes on.

Whether their desire to volunteer their time is fuelled by the passion for racing cars, or the love of being part of an extended family who share a common interest, there is no doubt Motorsport Australia officials are the lifeblood of this sport.

Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser paid tribute to all Motorsport Australia officials and the wider volunteer base across the sport.

“National Volunteers Week allows the motorsport community to recognise and pass on our appreciation to all the officials and club volunteers who dedicate themselves to this sport,” Fraser said.

“I have been a motorsport fan all my life and seeing these volunteers go out and do what they do no matter the weather conditions makes me proud to be part of this sport.

“I think that everyone highly appreciates the work they do and every job plays a significant role in events at any level.

“Our officials are considered some of the best in the world. And when you go to events, you can see why. It’s because they are hardworking, extremely knowledgeable and are willing to go the extra mile.

“So on behalf of everyone at Motorsport Australia, I would like to thank our club volunteers and volunteer officials for all the work they do in helping this sport grow and thrive.”

National Volunteer Week will be celebrated in Australia between 17-23 May.
