Groves target Australian GT glory in 2021

Stephen and Brenton Grove will contest the 2021 Motorsport Australia GT Championships.
Inaugural FIA Motorsport Games GT Cup Medallists Brenton and Stephen Grove will compete in the 2021 Motorsport Australia GT Championship.

The Grove Motorsport father-son duo will race the full championship behind the wheel of a brand new Porsche 911 GT3R with the support of Tasmanian gin company Dasher + Fisher.

Starting at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ first round at Phillip Island later this month, it will be the Groves’ first outing together since they secured the Pro-Am class win at last year’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

With John Russell to return as the team’s engineer after helping them with that class win, Stephen was excited to drive with his son again.

“The opportunity to drive alongside Brenton in a GT3-R was too good to pass up on and I'm really excited for the year,” Stephen said.

“I always enjoy driving the GT3-R, so I can’t wait to get stuck into the season.

“Previously we’ve spent quite a lot of time doing Carrera Cup, so to move into GT3 and try our hands at something else is extremely exciting.”

After enjoying plenty of success alongside his father, Brenton was also excited to take part in the six round championship that will feature in rounds at Bathurst, The Bend and Sandown.

“This program has been one we’ve spoken about for a while now and with my racing starting to wind down and international racing off the table at the moment, GT World Challenge Australia was the perfect program for us this year,” Brenton added.

“We know the car well so it’s exciting to try it in our own backyard and look forward to driving on some of Australia’s best race tracks.”

The Motorsport Australia GT Championship’s season opener takes place at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ first round at Phillip Island on 12-14 March.
