The National Trans-Am Series will be the headline act for this weekend’s second showing of the Boost Mobile Race Tasmania with Hobart’s Baskerville Raceway to host the event.
Being the only national category competing for series points this weekend, the 16 entrants will be fighting it out for one serious cash prize, with the winner of Sunday’s feature race to net a cool $10,000.
Out of 16 American Trans Am muscle cars locked into the event dubbed the Roadways Tasmanian Ten Thousand, three are the clear favourites to claim the mouth-watering prize following on from their performances at Symmons Plains over the Australia day long weekend.
There was plenty of entertaining action across the category’s three races and at the forefront of them were the three contenders in the hunt for the outright victory in Aaron Seton, former NASCAR entrant Owen Kelly and rising star Nathan Herne, who claimed round honours from Symmons Plains.
Another driver likely to be offering a serious challenge to the top three will be the brother of former Repco Supercars Championship veteran Lee Holdsworth, Brett, after the Chevrolet Camaro driver showed no shortage of talent in the weekend just gone.
Joining the National Trans-Am Series on the Baskerville bill will be the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series and Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters, with both categories running as invitationals in preparation for next month’s Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event at Phillip Island.
A number of stars from both categories will be taking part in the weekend with TCR to welcome round one winner Jordan Cox, Ben Bargwanna, Aaron Cameron and Zac Soutar, while the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters invitational will share the track with a host of local Group N racers.
Fresh from his milestone 100th TCM victory, John Bowe will be headlining the TCM category and will certainly put on a show for the travelling Tasmanian motorsport fans.
Other categories to be featured during the second part of the Boost Mobile Race Tasmania will be the Hyundai Excels, HQ Holdens and Improved Productions, all of whom were part of the Symmons Plains race meeting.
In what will be a major boost for attending fans, two VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship cars will also be doing demonstration runs throughout the weekend, as will Garry Rogers Motorsport’s iconic 2002 Bathurst 24 Hour-winning Holden Monaro.
The track action gets underway on Friday with competitors having the option to complete practice sessions before the real business occurs on Saturday and Sunday with all categories to enjoy qualifying and races.
The second part of the Boost Mobile Race Tasmania takes place at Baskerville Raceway on 29-31 January.
