There will be plenty of excitement at the Rob Roy Hillclimb this weekend as the first round of the Victorian Hillclimb Championship gets underway.

The event will provide competitors with the chance to kickstart their season of motorsport activity, after limited outings in 2020.

A total of 28 classes, including popular categories such as Formula Libre, Sports Sedans and Production Cars, will take to the course over the one-day event this Sunday.

Event Clerk of Course John Kelso is looking forward to starting off the 2021 championship season on a positive note.

“The event organisers, competitors and crew are all excited to get back into racing for the 2021 season, starting with round one at the Rob Roy Hillclimb this weekend,” Kelso said.

“We’ve got some nice, sunny, but cool weather forecasted for the day which will make for pleasant conditions for everyone who is involved, perfect conditions for a hillclimb.

“We want to make a great start to the hillclimb championship on Sunday and maximise it well, as we aim to get through a full championship year.”

With no benchmark favourites in mind for the weekend, or the year ahead, Kelso described it as one of the most interesting times throughout his involvement in motorsport.

“I can’t really say I have any favourites in mind for this weekend because every year is a new one for all of us and particularly with how things panned out last year, we weren’t able to get a lot of racing completed for our competitors,” Kelso explained.

“That’s why I think this year might be one of the more exciting ones in recent years because not everyone has a lot of miles under their belt and is lacking in track time.

“I reckon this will be one of the more fascinating starts to a hillclimb championship that we have had for a long time because no one knows how it will pan out.”
