Big year awaiting Porsche development series

Wednesday 02 December, 2020
The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia has confirmed its calendar for 2021 with the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia’s feeder series to hold six rounds next year.

As usual, the series will play a feature role in the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships with its opening five rounds to be part of the Championships, while it will finish the year off at the iconic Mount Panorama.

Fortunately for drivers who missed out on competing in 2020 due to COVID-19, the wait to begin the new season won’t be long with the opening round to run in February's inaugural Australian All Wheels Race Fest at Phillip Island.

For round two, Sydney Motorsport Park is the next circuit on the calendar in May before the one-make series heads to Queensland’s Morgan Park in June.

A two month break for competitors ends when the series hosts its fourth round of the year at the famous Sandown International Raceway in September.

Just over a month later, competitors then move east to South Australia for the penultimate round at The Bend Motorsport Park, where it will also be the last meeting with the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships for the year.

The final round, which will include endurance races as part of the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy, will see the category feature in the first ever Bathurst International later in the year.

With the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia acting as a both a development series for up and coming talent and competition for Porsche enthusiasts in the Pro-Am class, Porsche Cars Australia’s Head of Motorsport Troy Bundy was excited for what 2021 would bring.

“We are really looking forward to having the series back up and running again next year,” Bundy said.

“We feel we have delivered a calendar that all competitors will enjoy, allowing them to race on some of the best tracks across the country.

“Finishing the season at the Bathurst International will be a real highlight and will provide great coverage and exposure for all our teams, drivers and partners.”

Porsche Carrera Cup and Michelin Sprint competitors will get an opportunity to race later this month as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Festival at Sandown on 11-13 December.
