Sydney Motorsport Park will make history this weekend when it hosts the first official race meeting with the circuit’s brand new permanent lighting fully completed.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this weekend, the Eastern Creek circuit is hosting the fourth round of the 2020 Motorsport Australia NSW State Circuit Championships and will use all 132 light fixtures when it runs part of the meeting on Saturday night.

More than 100 competitors across a range of the championship’s regular categories are confirmed to compete in the round, including Improved Production, HQ Holdens, Sports Sedans and Formula Vee.

While some other events have taken place at the circuit since it announced plans to implement permanent lighting at the facility, including the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship’s Sydney SuperNight, which used a mixture of permanent and temporary light, this weekend’s event will be the first using all permanent lighting.

CEO of the Sydney Motorsport Park’s operator, the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club, Glenn Matthews was excited to mark the circuit’s 30th birthday with a special occasion.

“As we celebrate our 30th year, we are proud to flick the switch on our lighting project and become Australia’s first permanent motorsport circuit with the ability to operate both day and night,” Matthews said.

“The NSW Government’s strategic multi-million-dollar investment at SMSP brings with it a new era of racing; something to celebrate after a tumultuous year of fire, flood and COVID-19.

“And it isn’t just motorsport which will benefit; Sydney Motorsport Park will become a 24/7 home for a broad spectrum of stakeholders in motorsport, local business and tourism, driver training, on-site engineering and education, and much more.

“The next 30 years will be bright indeed.”

Making the event even more special will be the addition of fans being allowed to attend for the first time since Supercars ran there in July, and just the second time for the year.

Sticking within the NSW requirements and Motorsport Australia Return to Race document, the event will have limited tickets available to the public and will be implementing social distancing for the grandstand seating.

The fourth round of the Motorsport Australia NSW State Circuit Championships takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on 14-15 November.
