McLaughlin and Power continue to shine in virtual IndyCar

Reigning Virgin Australian Supercars Champion Scott McLaughlin and Australian IndyCar star Will Power were once again in virtual action overnight as they both finished the IndyCar iRacing Challenge’s third round in the top five.

Set at Michigan International Speedway, the Team Penske duo went into the race having secured a one-two at the previous round with McLaughlin backing his emphatic victory with a well-deserved second place, while Power fell just short of a podium to finish fourth.

The positions were reversed at lights out with Power qualifying in second and McLaughlin in fourth before a chaotic opening saw the Kiwi straight into the pits and the safety car deployed after several drivers caused a pile up before the first turn

A good race strategy, in addition to some good fortune saw the two-time Supercars champion eventually climb his way back up the field and into contention for the lead.

While he would ultimately fall short of winner Simon Pagenaud, who put in a mammoth himself after starting in 22nd, it was still a brilliant effort from McLaughlin who continues to impress on the simulator.

The next round of the IndyCar iRacing Challenge will take place on 19 April at a circuit yet to be announced, while McLaughlin will run in the second BP Supercars All Stars Eseries round on 15 April.
