Leclerc on the board in digital F1

Charles Leclerc has won the virtual Australian Grand Prix.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has put on a faultless performance overnight to take out the second round of the Formula 1’s Esports Virtual Grand Prix series.

Set at the iconic Albert Park street circuit in Australia, it was a dominant drive from Leclerc who led the race from start to finish and crossed the line more than 10 seconds ahead of the second placed Christian Lundgaard.

It was a tough but enjoyable day out for Lundgaard’s Renault teammate and Virgin Australia Supercars Championship star Andre Heimgartner, with the Kelly Racing driver finishing 16th outright.

Battling against a number of current Formula 1 stars and former champions, Heimgartner made it as high as third place and enjoyed battles with Williams’ Nicolas Latifi and 2009 World F1 Champion Jenson Button before ultimately dropping down the field after a tangle with Button.

“We had a good start, were running just inside the top 10 and then got sort of taken out there by Jenson, which is pretty cool to say,"  Heimgartner told supercars.com.

“Not every day that happens, but yeah overall really action-packed, had some good battles with Jenson, Latifi and guys like that, so to be able to race with those guys and have fun was really good."

Latifi ended the virtual Australian Grand Prix in 10th place ahead of Button, while his Williams teammate George Russell took out the final spot on the podium ahead of Leclerc’s younger brother Arthur and Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovanazzi.

Other results saw Red Bull’s Alexander Albon take out eighth place and McLaren’s Lando Norris unable to complete the event after having issues with his simulator.
