More than 30 drivers have turned up to the Club Motori Italia’s (CMI) Baskerville Supersprint, as just over one tenth of a second separated the top three drivers in the entertaining battle for top honours.

With drivers getting 21 laps around the Hobart-based circuit, it was Hamish Ferguson who ultimately took out victory thanks to his winning lap time of 59.79 seconds.

After missing the first three laps due to throttle issues, it took the Mazda RX7 driver just five laps to get his event winning time, replacing then leader Peter Pisko who had been the only driver to break the one minute barrier at that point.

Pisko was looking the strongest out of the field after twice posting under a minute, however the Audi TT driver eventually dropped to third after Al van Dullemen steered his Mitsubishi Starion to a 59.89 second lap, just two hundredths faster than Pisko’s time.

With Ferguson and van Dullemen both posting their fastest times on the same lap, it was a tough pill to swallow for Pisko - who like his rivals, was unable to run under a minute for the rest of the day.

Fortunately for Pisko, he was able to leave the event with some silverware thanks to his F1 class win.

Behind the wheel of a Honda Integra, Scott Wyman was the best of the rest, with his time of 60.13 seconds securing him fourth place and the C class win, while class E winner Darren Moody rounded out the top five.

Despite coming away with the victory, it had been a tough day for Ferguson and he was thrilled to take out the win.

“It was good weather, my times were all consistent and that winning lap was the quickest I have ever been around Baskerville, so it ended up being quite a good day,” Ferguson said.

“We had missed the earlier three laps due to a broken throttle, but we got back out there once we fixed it and it was fine. I also had a new engine it in and it hadn’t done much kilometres in the lead up, but it proved to be okay in the end.

“Funnily enough I thought I had actually posted the fastest time on my final lap of the day, but I still ended up being quite short so the track must have been a bit slower.

“I was a little surprised by the winning lap and because I had driven my car to the track, it felt good. At the end of the day though, I had one really good lap but that’s all you need to win something like this.”
