McLaughlin proves worthy of Indy test

Thursday 13 February, 2020
Scott McLaughlin has had a solid start in his Indycar Series testing.
Reigning Virgin Australia Supercars Champion Scott McLaughlin has enjoyed a solid start to his NTT IndyCar Series career, posting the third fastest time during the series’ pre-season test.

With around 27 drivers taking part in the testing at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas, the two-time Supercars champion was just half a second slower than Australian Will Power who topped the session with a lap time of one minute and 46.7603 seconds, while Alexander Rossi split the duo in second.

It was a brilliant result for McLaughlin who proved himself as no easy beat during the eight and a half hour session – his first official duty in the popular US based series.

Having very little experience in open wheel racing, the 26-year-old New Zealander will make his series debut with current team DJR Team Penske in May as he looks to compete in both the NTT IndyCar Series and the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship in 2020.

The NTT IndyCar Series starts its 17-round season with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on 15 March, while McLaughlin’s title defence begins with the Superloop Adelaide 500 later this month.
