Van Gisbergen to race Asian Le Mans

Wednesday 08 January, 2020
Shane van Gisbergen will race in the Asian Le Mans Series at The Bend.
Virgin Australia Supercars Championship driver Shane van Gisbergen will make his prototype debut this weekend when he lines up for Eurasia Motorsport in the Asian Le Mans Series at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Replacing car owner Nobuya Yamanaka, the 2016 Supercars champion will be teaming up alongside fellow New Zealanders Nick Cassidy and Dan Gaunt for the second round of the Asian series, which makes its historic first visit to Australia.

The all Kiwi line-up will be behind the wheel of Yamanaka’s Ligier JS P217 New Zealand entry and van Gisbergen was excited to make his prototype debut at a track he has enjoyed recent success at.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to join Eurasia Motorsport at The Bend this weekend,” van Gisbergen said.

“It will be my first time in a prototype and at a track that will suit them perfectly. Getting to join some great friends in Daniel Gaunt and Nick Cassidy will be a lot of fun.

“I’ll be learning from their experience in the car to help get me up to speed as quickly as possible.”

The round will take place at The Bend Motorsport Park on 10-12 January, with the four-hour endurance race to run at 1pm ACDT on Sunday 12 January.
