A consistent year in the 2019 Toyota 86 Racing Series has seen Aaron Borg claim a maiden title in the competitive one-make series.

Enduring a tight battle throughout the season with fellow contender Luke King, the New South Welshman needed a series of strong results to hold onto the number one spot during the final round in Newcastle.

The task was made even more difficult when King managed to win all three races during the final round.

However a valuable second place in the first race and a sixth and fifth in the final two races was enough for Borg to take out the national title by just eight points.

“It was very exciting to win. It’s been a long year but we got there in the end, which is fantastic,” Borg said.

“We went into the final just trying to do the usual because obviously the points gap between myself and Kingy was so small. So we were trying to just what we have been doing all year, which ended up working out pretty well."

It wasn’t an easy season for Gorg, with the 28-year-old picking up his first win during the third round at Bathurst, to which he secured three of the next four races.

King meanwhile managed to get his first race win during the Bathurst round before his last ditch effort in the final round, where he got his second to fourth wins of the year.

Finishing 2019 in third place a further 46 points behind King was Tim Brook, who won three races in total, including the series’ season opener and two races in Townsville.

Despite having a tough end to the year, Borg was thrilled to take out the tough series and was grateful for the support received.

“Any national series win always looks good a resume, but the Toyota 86 is very competitive with some of the best drivers in it so to come out on top is a great reward for myself and the team,” Borg added.

“I would have to thank Sieders Racing Team. They have been a massive support behind the scenes.

“Also Driving Solutions and Reaction performance. We put in a lot of work form Townsville onwards, and the results speak for themselves since then. IT’S been a huge part of the championship of getting on top.”
