More than 70 drivers have taken part in the BMW Drivers Club New South Wales’ first Supersprint for 2019, with Rodney Forbes taking home top honours.

Behind the wheel of the 2011 BMW M3, Forbes needed only four laps of Sydney Motorsport Park's Druitt Circuit to post his fastest time, which remained unbeatable for the rest of the day.

In second, with a fastest lap time only one and half seconds behind Forbes, was Lachlan McBrien, with the runner-up securing his best time on the 10th lap of the day.

While McBrien’s outright time earned him a strong result, it wasn’t too easy for the 1996 BMW M3 pilot, who had sat behind Justin Lowery for much of the event.

It was an unfortunate end to the day Lowery who had posted his fastest time on just his third lap, however once both Forbes and McBrien surpassed him, he was unable to regain his spot in the top two throughout his next 21 laps, settling for third place.

Finishing behind Lowery was the highest placed non-BMW car with Lotus Exige 430 Cup driver, Martin Duursma just under three tenths of a second ahead of fifth placed Justin Bisset.

While Bisset was close to finishing fourth for the day, he managed to just beat the club’s president Alex Wong by even less, as both drivers steered their 2008 BMW 135i within the one minute and 12 second barrier.

Despite not breaking into the top five, Wong was still proud of the day’s proceedings, lauding the competitors and officials for the running of the day.

“With over 70 competitors competing, this was one of the best turnouts that we have had in many years which is just fantastic,” Wong said.

“We were very fortunate to have such beautiful weather and although the track temperatures were a little high, it still made for great driving and I believe everyone had a ball.

“A big congratulations to Rodney Forbes for his victory, as well as every other driver getting out there today and taking part in the event.

“Also, a big thank you to all the officials who volunteered their time today because as we know the event wouldn’t be possible without them.

“We are really looking forward to the next Supersprint in March and hopefully seeing more people come down for some fun.”

The next round of the BMW Drivers Club New South Wales’ 2019 Supersprint series takes place at Wakefield Park on Sunday, 10 March.
